Introduction to Cartooning In Toon Boom

In the past, TallGrassRadio Studios produced a series of website pages focused on providing information aimed at helping current and potential users of TBS. We use Toon Boom Studio as well as Flash and other software applications in our cartoon production work and wanted to provide, as a public service to other cartoon makers, helpful “Tips and Tricks”, “Answers to Frequently Ask Questions”, and "Practical Tutorials" that would enhance their productivity with this 2D animation software.

After some careful thought, we decided that an “indexed” blog style of approach would provide an excellent way to manage our content on this subject so this new blog is the result of that decision. We are now working to replace our previously published “Frequently Ask Questions” website pages and expand the number and types of posts specifically oriented toward Toon Boom Studio (TBS) by means of this blog. We hope that it will provide a useful addition to the already existing information available about TBS. A detailed index will be provided to accompany this blog so as to facilitate quick access to previous posts by subject.

Our goal in this blog is to add insight and clarity to the usage of TBS and to provide a valuable reference resource. We will try to provide perspective for those readers totally new to using 2D animation software as well as more experienced current users of Toon Boom Studio and other 2D applications such as Flash.

On a final note, we are not affiliated with or sponsored by Toon Boom Technologies and therefore all content published in this blog is strictly our interpretations and opinions.

JK, another blog?! Heh, I already know this is going to be great. Thanks for all the tutorials & help you've given already & thanks in advance for what's to come! This will undoubtedly become an invaluable resource for cartoonists of all skill levels. Can't wait to see it develop :)

More great stuff from Tuberville!
As always, clear, concise, friendly and articulate. JK's writings on animation always leave you feeling as if you've just had a private lesson with an accomplished animation teacher. 'Cuz you have! (an' he's a downright nice feller, too.)

For any readers who are not familiar with Marty Bish, he is my collaborative partner on numerous cartooning projects. And although he doesn't write much for our blogs, it is usually his art work and animations that you will see posted. I do that intentionally to insure equal participation by Marty. He is actually the one who motivates me to write our 3 instructional blogs.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been trying to learn TBS by using their tutorials, and I've had minimal success. Your explanations and tutorials are excellent!
